That’s what this post is all about… making time. Maybe there are some new hobbies you’ve been wanting to try but you can’t seem to find the time to squeeze them in? Or perhaps you feel overwhelmed just trying to keep your head above water with everyday life.
* Give this a try. Download my time management sheet (yes, I am a nerd… but a well organized nerd!).
Print it and fill it out first with everyday routines (what time you get up, when the kids get up, meal times, nap times, school times, etc…).
The things on my chart at this point are more or less things that don’t change. They’re not super detailed (i.e. “Breakfast. Get Dressed.”).
Next I add on things that have to get done each day (chores, errands, work, studying, etc…).
Finally I add on fun extras like hobbies or dinner with friends.
After filling out the form, take a look to see if how you spend your time aligns with your priorities. If it does, fantastic! If it doesn’t, see what you can cut out to make more time for what’s important to you.
For example, if you are watching tv for 3 hours a night but feel like you don’t have any time for yourself, take a look at that. Spend time doing things you love; it’s energizing and replenishing.
Of course, there are nights when the kids have completely worn me out and I’m beyond exhausted. I will choose to veg in front of the tv but the next day I’ll pick it up and be more efficient.
It’s all about balance. I didn’t include weekends on this chart because for me, weekends are a time to unwind and be less structured.
I make it a priority to find at least 5 hours during the week to do something fun for just me (sewing, playing on Illustrator, blogging, etc.). Try it this week – I bet you’ll feel better and hopefully find some long lost energy. Remember, you can’t take care of anyone else until you take care of you!
